The Verdict

Pro’s and Con’s

It is a well-known fact that when someone is trying to build muscle, lose fat, or maintain muscle mass they need the right amount or excess amount of essential building blocks and nutrients in their body!

EVERYONE has a hard time eating enough foods that are healthy while providing all the materials and nutrients the body needs on a daily basis!!

Why is this a problem?

Well…it’s simple…it’s a lot more appealing and easier to eat a twinkie, pizza, or takeout rather than taking the time to make a salad or an elaborate dinner!

Even if you eat salads and make dinners every night you still may find it’s difficult to get all the vitamins, minerals, and macros you need with just food alone.

Companies realized this problem and thankfully came up with a solution!

Vitamins, pills, protein powders, creatine–you name it, were created and sold to help people be healthier and get everything they need in their diet and more!

Thousands of supplement companies now exist trying to sell you their products and you have probably found by now that they all seem to promise to fix every problem you’ve ever had!

But, many companies are not…well how do I put it…the best or have the best intentions for you?

Many supplement companies cut corners by getting their ingredients from bad sources that have been affected by hormones, steroids, and poorly fed animals!

They also add sugars, fats, excessive amounts of caffeine, artificial flavorings, and some ingredients that are complete garbage for you and your body!

But there are some diamonds in the rough that are exceptions to the norm.

Transparent Labs and How They're Different

Have you heard of them? If not, prepare to have your world rocked.

Transparent Labs is a fairly new supplement company that is growing rapidly and is based on transparency and providing the best clean products in the industry.

When I first heard about them and what they’re about–not going to lie–I got excited!

They offer premium protein powders, mass gainer, pre-workout, and loads of other supplements anyone could ever want or need!

All of their whey based products come from 100% grass-fed cows.

What does that mean?

You are what you eat…the same applies to cows.

Traditionally, cows are filled and fattened with grains like soy and corn in the US and most countries.

But when cows are fed grass, which is what they naturally eat, it can lead to some benefits you won’t find in grain fed cows.

Some of these benefits include more omega-3, Beta-LactoGlobulin, Cysteine, and Lactoferrin from the milk of the grass-fed cows.

Read about some of the benefits here and the benefits of using 100% grass-fed cows products.

Grass-Fed vs Grain-Fed Whey Protein- How do they Compare?

100% grass fed whey is no-bueno….WITHOUT some flavor!!!!

Transparent Labs also has a great lineup of flavors for their protein and pre-workout series so you’re bound to find a flavor you’ll like!

There are a couple notable flavors missing in their flavor selection but most people will manage with what they have.

Something else that is missing with Transparent Labs is the crazy claims and misleading research with their products.

And that’s a fantastic thing!!

In their about section, they say, “ Look around… you won’t find any ridiculous pseudoscience, outrageous claims, or misleading research. Instead, we like to keep things simple by letting our product formulas speak for themselves”

And what they say is true. Most of their products don’t make any crazy claims about anything and they back all of their products with rock hard studies and science.

They have multiple links to certificates of analysis for all their products which were analyzed by ARL (Analytical Resource Laboratories) which is an unbiased compositional analysis lab in Orem Utah.

They also have certificates of composition that verify how much of each ingredient is in each and every product!

After learning about Transparent Labs and researching them a little more I decided to reach out to them for a sample of their product and they were kind enough to send a bag of 100% Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder (chocolate) and some BULK Pre-Workout (Blue Raspberry)!

I used both products for a week and wrote an honest review with my own personal thoughts and opinions on their products!

First Impressions

For being a top of the line supplement provider, they also have a great sense of humor.

They have a hilarious youtube video that promotes their Pre-Workout and is quite comical as well as informative.

This is where I first learned about them!

Watch it!

Haha as you can tell from the video they are a VERY UNIQUE company indeed!

When I first got my package from Transparent Labs it was like Christmas morning. I was filled with excitement and optimism to try supposedly one of the best protein powders in the industry.

I read other reviews that raved about it and some even ranked it higher than Gold Standard and some of the other leading protein powders in the industry!

But before opening the box, I did my best to clear my head of all thoughts and prejudice I had of the company beforehand so the product would speak for itself and the review would be as honest and unbiased as it could be.

After clearing all former thoughts of the company I opened the package and was very surprised.

Transparent Labs 100% Grass Fed Whey Protein (In-Depth Review 2019)

While I was opening the shipping box I was expecting to pull out a bag of protein powder but instead pulled out a plastic tub of it! There’s nothing too special with the plastic, it’s like every other tub of protein powder.

I was caught a little off guard, but besides that, the first thing that stood out, even more, was the packaging and labeling of their products.

The container that holds the protein powder is very simple, clean, and professional looking.

A lot of companies packaging have a lot going on the front and back of their tubs like Nitro-Tech, Animal Whey, and MP Combat.

Transparent Labs is very minimal and it doesn’t pop out and be in your face like some other protein powders.

The main colors of the package are white, blue, and dark navy blues and they all blend together nicely to create a look that automatically makes you trust the brand.

Overall the packaging is clean, professional, and minimalistic. But what really matters is what is on the inside.

The Label

Transparent Labs takes pride in having high-quality ingredients in all their products as well as complete transparency on what’s on the inside of its products.

The label really stood out to me even more than the packaging after I looked it over.

Actually, it didn’t just stand out, it put me into a state of shock.

Ingredients: Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate, Cocoa, Natural Flavor, Sodium Chloride (table salt), Stevia.

That’s it.

5 ingredients.

Compared to other protein powders, they only have the bare essentials in their protein powder.

And that may be a bad thing or a great thing depending on what you like.

If you’re into all the bells and whistles of protein powders, then go ahead and get the ones that have 10-30 ingredients listed! (10-30 ingredients isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a different ideology for their product)

They’ll add things for you like whey concentrate, creatine, extra blends,

But if you like things simple, clean and pure like me, Transparent Labs provides a product that is just that and nothing more!

Transparent Labs 100% Grass Fed Whey Protein offers a whopping 28g of protein per scoop, 0g of fat, and no sugar!

That’s a Win, Win, and Win in my book!

One thing that will raise make you raise your eyebrows a little is the amount of sodium in the product. There is 130 mg which is 9% of your daily value! That’s quite high!

Each scoop is only 120 calories and it comes with only 1g of carbs as well.

Just wow.

The Powder

When I first unscrewed the lid then pulled off the paper/plastic covering I was blasted with the signature smell of chocolate whey.

Nothing too special there.

They also offer the flavors french vanilla, salted caramel, strawberry, and mocha. As I said before, they offer a great lineup of flavors and I imagine they are all great!

But they don’t offer the most flavors I feel like they could.

Some companies offer 24+ flavors for their whey protein powders!

It makes Transparent Labs measly 5 flavors seem like nothing, but they have the basic and most popular flavors covered which will be plenty for almost everyone.

The outliers that won’t be happy with the flavors offered will be those who have acquired a taste for blueberry cheesecake, gingerbread, or some other exotic protein powder flavor.

Hopefully, in the future, they add other popular flavors like cookies and cream and birthday cake, but in the meantime, you will more than likely be happy with the flavors offered.

Anyways back to the chocolate protein powder.

One thing that stood out to me was the look and texture of the powder.

Most protein powders I’ve had are more sandy and denser in appearance (which isn’t very dense, all protein powders are light).

But Transparent Labs is even “lighter and fluffier” than other whey based protein powders and it is more relatable to “moon sand”.

After digging in the powder for a bit to find the scoop, I picked up a scoop of it and dropped it back into the tub.

This powder holds its form like wet sand at the beach! I tried my best to not pack it in or anything, it just kind of holds it’s form (for the most part, but it’s not exactly like moonsand).

Other powders usually just slump back into a pile of powder like it was before, but transparent labs protein powder is different so far just by the way it behaves in and out of the scoop.

Does this mean anything important?

But the way the powder behaves is just an observation I made. It could mean a lot, but at the same time, it could mean absolutely nothing.

All I can say is that this powder is different than others I’ve had.

Now it’s time for what we’ve all been waiting for.

This is one of the most important attributes of protein powder. The taste.

I mixed 2 scoops of the protein powder with a shaker bottle full of milk and gave it a good shake for a minute.

I didn’t have any problems mixing it in.

There were only a couple “floaties” which are small amounts of dry powder that has balled up on the top of the milk. If I shook more vigorously and for longer, I could probably get rid of those too, but I was too lazy.

I took a big swig.

Instantly a powerful yet creamy blast of chocolate hit my tongue.

Transparent Labs chocolate protein powder is very chocolatey, but not overpoweringly sweet.

It has a great balance between the two and its taste was very much to my liking!

With milk, it almost doesn’t even seem like it’s a protein shake! It feels and tastes like a chocolate shake!

I had a friend and my cousin, who is 12, try it and both of their eyebrows instantly shot up in approval and a big grin soon followed after as they both licked the chocolate mustache from their upper lips.

I tried it with water as well and it’s still pretty good!

Not as good as it is with milk but still respectable.

It mixed well, had a nice color, and I didn’t feel like I was chugging it down just to get it down as I do with other protein powders in water.

The chocolate flavor isn’t as profound in water for some reason but that might just be me.

It also wasn’t as creamy as it is mixed with milk but that was to be expected as it is with all protein powders and water.

After drinking it with milk or water, it doesn’t have a bad aftertaste and I didn’t feel bloated or get any stomach cramps.

This is the one part about this powder that makes me get an empty feeling in my gut…oh wait that’s my wallet.

I’ll tell you right now, this product is not for those who are looking for a great deal on protein powders or cheap products.

Transparent Labs is a premium product that comes with a premium price.

Each bag/tub of protein comes with 30 servings and costs $59.00.

That comes out to about $1.97 a serving.

If you buy Transparent Labs protein in bulk and get 3 bags it is $139 and it brings the cost per serving down to $1.54.

The cheapest protein powders around are about 75 cents a serving, and most powders I researched fell around the $1 per serving range.

Some were 10-20 cents more per serving and some were a couple cents less per serving than the $1 mark.

It just depends on the company, quality of ingredients, and a couple other factors.

Transparent Labs Protein Powders price would seem like a joke if you didn’t know what was inside each and every product and the quality that’s packed inside.

That is what justifies their price they’re asking for.

They are putting all the best ingredients they can possibly get into one product and expensive ingredients require the price of the product to be raised.

An all natural product is not easy to make and it naturally makes it more expensive.

100% Grass Fed Cattle and their products are not cheap.

All the research, time, and effort that goes into the product are not cheap or free.

Premium Cocoa powder is an expensive export.

No corners are cut in this product and that is why it is almost twice as much as some other protein powders.

Is the price high?

It depends on your perspective.

For some, $59 is pocket change.

For others, it may be more than they have in their checking account.

But relative to protein powders, it is extremely high.

Is it justified?

The Verdict

Transparent Labs 100% Grass Fed Whey Protein

Mr.Workout's Rating: 4.9/5

Value for Money

The best protein powder in the industry. Hands down.

Transparent Labs is a very unique company that has made a product that is one of a kind.

They’ve made their protein powder just what some people want. Clean, simple, pure, and effective.

The packaging is simple and clean like it’s protein powder, and it instantly gives you a feeling of trust with the brand.

The few ingredients that they put into the product are top of the line and they come from all natural sources that haven’t been affected by hormones, steroids, or bad farming and agricultural practices.

There are only 5 ingredients on the label which shows how bare-to-the-bones this actual product is.

All the ingredients come together to provide a very chocolaty experience that isn’t too sweet and will hit the bullseye with most crowds.

I downed it quicker than usual and a couple other people I had try it loved it.

But your palette of tastes you can get with this company are very limited.

That is one thing that is disappointing: their selection of flavors.

They only offer 5 flavors in all and don’t have cookies and cream and birthday cake which are popular flavors.

Most people will find that 5 flavors are plenty, but it is nice to have a little more options to pick from.

All of this comes at a cost.

As I said before Transparent Labs 100% Grass fed whey protein is a premium product with a premium price.

This product is obviously made for those who put their health at the top of their priority list and only want to put natural and clean products in their body.

Is the price justified?

But it still is really high.

For me, it is a little hard to come to terms with the fact that you could get twice as much protein powder with another company for the same cost.

Some people will not be phased by the price, but for the average consumer they will think twice and do a little more research to see other alternatives.

In the end, you pay for what you get.

The best protein powder in the industry.

Even at 4.9 stars.

I can easily say that this will now be my “daily driver” for my choice of protein, and I’ll be a regular with the company!

I highly recommend picking some up and trying it out!
